Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abedin Farroque, now behind bars, was admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) after he fell sick at Kashimpur Jail on Sunday.
Officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Abdul Momin told UNB that the opposition chief whip was taken to the NICVD around 5pm.
Farroque was admitted to the hospital for treatment after he complained of chest pain in the afternoon.
On March 11, police raided the BNP Nayapaltan central office following explosions of some crude bombs at a rally of 18-party opposition alliance and arrested its over 150 leaders and activists, including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, vice-chairmen Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Zainul Abedin Farroque, BNP joint secretaries general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amanullah Aman.
On March 12, three of the BNP leaders — Fakhrul, Khoka and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury — were released.
On that day, two Dhaka courts sent most of the arrested leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party, including Farroque, to jail in two cases filed for exploding crude bombs, attacking and obstructing police from performing their duties.
