BNP plans rally May 13, hartal Wed, Thursday

DHAKA: Main opposition BNP will stage a rally in city’s Nayapaltan area on Monday demanding restoration of the caretaker government system and protesting May 5’s attack on Hefajat activists at Shapla Chhatar.Besides, the opposition is likely to announce of two-day dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal for Wednesday and Thursday from the rally, said party sources.
The decision of holding protest rally has been taken in a BNP standing committee meeting held at Chairperson’s Gulshan political office on Thursday night.
After the meeting of BNP high-ups, Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed disclosed the decision in a press briefing.
Moudud said, “The party will hold the rally demanding restoration of the caretaker government system and protesting the rejection of Khaleda Zia’s 48-hour ultimatum to the government for accepting the caretaker government system and May 5’s attack on Hefajat activists at Shapla Chhatar in the city.”
With party Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair, the meeting also was attended by Dr. RA Goni, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Dr. Khandaker Mosharrof Hossain, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircer, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Barrister Rafiqul Mia, Brigadier (retd.) ASM Hannan Shah, Goyeswar Chandra Roy and Sarwari Rahman.
A reliable source of 18-party alliance said the opposition is to call another spell of two-day dawn-to-dusk nationwide hartal for Wednesday and Thursday demanding restoration of CG System, stooping torture on opposition men, release of all leaders of the alliance and protesting the rejection of Khaleda Zia’s 48-hour ultimatum to the government for accepting the CG system.
