Bnp to be positive about city polls if fairness assured

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is positive about participating in the upcoming elections to Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations provided there were assurance of free and fair polls, former Dhaka University vice chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahmed said on Friday.
“BNP will decide in its party forum and with alliance partners about the participation in the elections. However, it seemed to us that Khaleda Zia is not negative about the city corporation elections,” he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with the BNP chairperson at her Gulshan office.A delegation of professionals, led by Emajuddin Ahmed, entered the Khaleda’s office around 7:25pm. The meeting lasted an hour.
Prof. Emajuddin Ahmed told journalists that there were important takhs of the Bnp chairpeson with them regarding the city corporation election.
The other members include Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Prof AFM Yusuf Haider, Tahmina Akhter Popy, Prof Mamun Hossain, senior journalist Mahfuz Ullah and DUJ president Abdul Hye Shikder.
Asked whether there will be any change in the strategy of BNP’s movement if the party takes part in the city polls, Prof Emajuddin said there might be a shift in this regard.
Bnp’s standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and Bnp chairperson’s adviser Abdul Qayyum were present at the meeting.
