BNP wants Parliament dissolved

Senior BNP leader and former Law Minister has said it is ‘impractical’ to suggest the holding of the national elections with Parliament still intact.
It is an ‘impractical’ idea to hold the national elections with the parliament still intact, Moudud Ahmed has said.“The Prime Minister and the Speaker have both said Parliament will be in force during the election. This is completely unreal. There is no example of this happening anywhere else,” he said at a discussion on Saturday.
The 10th national election will be held under the current government since the 15th amendment to the Constitution abolished the provision to hold elections under a caretaker government.
“The UK doesn’t have this; election for a new assembly doesn’t take place with the House of Commons still intact,” said the former law minister.
“Our election will also have to be held after the assembly is dissolved.”
Moudud claimed the government may appear to be outwardly ‘tough’ in its position but was ‘crumbling’ within.
“The BNP is ready to talk. A dialogue can be held at any location,” said the BNP leader. “But the government will have to make the first move.”
He said the main opposition will come to talks but the government will have to agree to the idea of a neutral poll-time government.
“We want to discuss who should be the chief adviser of the proposed government among other matters,” said the senior BNP leader.
The government will face a tough resistance if it chooses to be dismissive and adopts a hard-line.
“The matter will then have to be resolved on the streets through a mass revolution.
The programme he took part on Saturday was held at the National Press Club to commemorate the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique Zia from prison.
“I will ask the government to change its plans. An election cannot be held while the 9th assembly is in office”, said the BNP Standing Committee member. – bdnews24.com
