BNP Standing Committee member retired Brigadier General ASM Hannan Shah secured bail in a case, while Swechhasebak Dal General Secretary Sarafat Ali Sapu and its Organising Secretary Shafiul Bari Babu obtained bail in another case on Tuesday.However, neither Hannah Shah nor the two Swechhasebak leaders will be released from jail as there are other cases against them.
Judge-in-Charge of Dhaka’s Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court, Md Arifur Rahman passed the order after hearing on the bail petitions.
Earlier, on November 29, Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court sent Hannan Shah to jail rejecting his bail petition on completion of a two-day remand in an arson case. BNP leader Hannan Shah will not be released from jail now, as he has been shown arrested in two other cases.
On November 25, plainclothes law enforcers detained Hannan Shah in the city’s Natunbazar area after he attended a program at Japan embassy.
Meanwhile, Safu and Babu were also granted bail in a case filed with Ramna Police Station. The were arrested from the capital’s Bangla Motor area on Nov 14 and the following day, a Dhaka court put them on a five-day remand each in a case filed over assault on the law enforcing agency. They were first shown arrested in an explosive case.
Safu is now undergoing treatment at the BARDEM Hospital while Babu is also getting medical treatment at the Jail Hospital, their lawyer Sanaullah Miah told the court. – Court Correspondent
