Case filed over landslilde

Two cases have been filed in connection with early Sunday’s landslide and wall collapse in the port city that left six people, including three siblings, dead.

Abdul Halim, sub-inspector of Bayezid Police Station, filed a case against two people over the landslide at Amin Colony while SI Rasel of Khulshi Police Station, lodged the other case against a person early Monday regarding the wall collapse at Pora Colony in the city’s Lalkhan Bazar area.

Meanwhile, police arrested Shahabuddin and Joynal Abedin, accused in the first case, from Amin Colony early Monday in connection with the landslide.

Police said the duo constructed houses in the area cutting hill that triggered the landslide.

The lone accused in the other case is Khokon. The wall of his house collapsed at Pora Colony.

Earlier, at least six people, including three siblings, were killed and four others injured in separate incidents of landslide and wall collapse, triggered by torrential rains for the last couple of days, in the port city early Sunday.

Three siblings — Arafat Hossain Farid, 12, Umme Salma, 5, and 16-month-old Bibi Mariam — all children of Mohammad Shahjahan of the area and hailing from Kashirampur village in Noakhali district, were killed and four others injured in the landslide at Amin Colony under Bayezid thana in the city early Sunday.

Mariam Begum, 29, wife of Mohammad Sharif, Suraiya Akhter, 22, daughter of Mariam, and Akinur, 3, were killed in the wall collapse at Pora Colony in the city’s Lalkhan Bazar area in the early hours of Sunday.
