Charge framing against 148 opposition leaders June 6

A Dhaka court on Tuesday fixed June 6 for hearing on charge framing against 148 opposition men including Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque.Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan of Speedy Trial Court-6 passed the order following separate time petitions submitted by defence lawyers.
The hearing was scheduled to begin on Tuesday and the defence sought adjournment of the hearing as only 125 accused including the Opposition Chief Whip turned up to the court on the day. However, the remaining accused persons are at present behind the bars.
The opposition leaders and activists were accused in two cases for torching vehicles and blasting homemade bombs in front of BNP central office in the city’s Nayapaltan on March 11.
On the day, the law enforcing people detained 157 leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance during a raid on the main opposition BNP central office after allegedly  cocktails went off at a rally in front of their office.
Paltan police filed two cases against 154 detained opposition leaders and activists on the same day. A total of 151 leaders and activists except Farroque, Amanullah Aman and Rizvi Ahmed on March 20 were remanded for their alleged involvement in assaulting police and blasting cocktails near the BNP office.
On March 24, police submitted charge sheets against the opposition men. On April 30, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court granted bail for six months to Farroque in the blast case.
