Hefazat secretary Babunagari ‘confesses’ in custody

Hefajat-e-Islam secretary general Junaid Babunagari on Tuesday gave confessional statement to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka in a case filed for killing a police personnel.Magistrate Md Harun-Ur-Rashid recorded the confessional statement from 3-5.30 pm.
It has been learnt that in the statement Babunagari blamed activists of Jamaat, Shibir Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal for violence in the downtown of Dhaka on the day when property worth crores of Taka were vandalized and torched. The property included vehicles and makeshift and permanent shops in Motijheel and other adjoining areas.
On completion of recording the confessional statement, the Metropolitan Magistrate sent Babunagari to the jail fixing June 6 for submission of the report of the Investigation Officer (IO).
Earlier, he was placed on 22 days’ remand for interrogation in the cases filed in connection with the alleged murder, vandalism, torching and blasting of bombs in the areas.
On May 7, Junaid Babunagari was put on a nine-day in connection with the case and the remand was ended on May 16.
Police arrested the Hefajat leader at Lalbagh area on May 6 after the violence in the downtown of in custoryDhaka on May 5.
