Charge framing in Rana Plaza murder case on May 15

Dhaka – A court here on Thursday fixed May 15 for framing charges against 42 accused in a murder case filed over Rana Plaza collapse, unb news agency reported.
Dhaka District and Sessions Judge SM Kuddus Jaman set the date taking cognizance of the chargesheet against the accused.Of the total 42 accused, the four arrestees — Rana Plaza building owner Sohel Rana, Savar municipality sub-assistant engineer M Rakibul Islam, its building inspector M Awlad Hossain and local contractor Abdul Hamid — were produced before the court.
Besides, 26 accused in the case are now out on bail, while 12 are on the run.
On December 21 last year, a court here accepted the chargesheet in a murder case filed over the Rana Plaza collapse.
On June 1, 2015, over two years after the Rana Plaza tragedy, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police pressed charges against 42 people, including Sohel Rana, in the two cases filed over the Rana Plaza that collapsed on April 24, 2013 killing 1,129 people and injuring 2,515.
Of the charge-sheeted accused, 17 were common in the two chargesheets submitted by Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Sohel Rana’s father Abdul Khalek and mother Marjina Begum and 12 government officials were among the charge-sheeted accused.
Besides, 594 people were shown as witnesses in the murder case while 135 in another case.
On the day when the complex collapsed, Rajuk filed a case with Savar Model Police Station against Sohel Rana for violating the Bangladesh National Building Code.
Police also filed a case accusing six people, including Sohel Rana, on April 25 of committing murders.
Police arrested Sohel Rana on April 28, 2013.
