SIM re-registration deadline to expire on Apr 30: Tarana

The re-registration of all subscribers’ SIM cards under the biometric method will end at 10m on April 30 as per as the government’s decision, reiterated State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Thursday.

“The re-registration of SIMs under biometric method to end at 10pm on Apr 30 and all unregistered SIMs would be blocked for several hours on May 1,” she told reporters at the Secretariat. Dhaka, UNB news agency reported.

The minister said all the mobile phone operators managed to complete the registration of nearly 7.79 crore of SIMs’ under the system successfully till Wednesday evening while some 1.21 lakh SIMs could not be registered for various reasons, including fingerprint mismatch with the those of National Identity (NID) cards.

Tarana said the government will give extra scope to those who could not complete the registrations due to such problems.

Responding to a question about the re-registration deadlines, the junior minister she will brief about it on April 30.

The process of re-registering SIMs/RIUMs under the biometric system began on December 16 last.
