A Dhaka court on Monday took cognizance of a charge sheet in the case filed in connection with the death of Mahabubur Rahman Sujon, a garment-waste trader in police custody.
Judge-in-Charge KM Imrul Kayes of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka accepted the charge sheet on Monday afternoon against five people including Mirpur Model Police Station’s former Sub-Inspector Zahidur Rahman Zahid.Other accused persons in the case are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar, Constables Asad and Rashidul Haque and police informer Mithun. The court dropped the names of five other persons from the charge sheet of the case.
Last year, the accused picked Sujon up from his house at Hazaribagh of the city on July 13 midnight and tortured him in custody at Mirpur Model PoliceStation. As Sujon fell sick, the accused took him to a local clinic and later he was rushed to Shohrawardy Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar where the physicians declared him dead on the day. – Court Correspondent
