Charge sheet submitted on court against Tavella murder case

Dhaka-The charge sheet in the Italian citizen Cesare Tavella murder was submitted to a Dhaka court on Monday against seven persons, including BNP’s Dhaka city unit Joint Convener MA Quayum. Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman told newsmen that the charge sheet was submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court of Dhaka on Monday.
The other six accused persons are Quayum’s younger brother Abdul Matin, Tamjid Ahmed Rubel, Sohel Ahmed alias Bhangari Sohel, Russell Chowdhury alias Chakti Russel, Minhajul Arefin alias Bhagne Russell and Shakhawat Hossain. Of the accused, BNP leader Quayum and Bhangari Sohel are on the run, while other are behind bar.
On September 28, last year, Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-government organization ‘ICC Cooperation’, was shot dead by some miscreants in the capital’s Gulshan Diplomatic Zone.
The case was filed with the police station on the same day. It was transferred to the DB police on September 29. Nearly a month after, police arrested Russell Chowdhury, Bhagne Russell, Tamjid Ahmed Rubel and Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain from the city on October 26 in connection with the incident.
On November 4, police had arrested Quayum’s brother Matin from Basro Aanchra, near Benapole border. Later, he was placed on 13 days’ remand in two terms for interrogation. But, he did not make any confessional statement admitting his involvement in the murder incidence.-Court Correspondent
