Chittagong City Corporation turns 150

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) is celebrating 150 years of its formation through a three-day programme. CCC Mayor M Manzur Ahmed launched the celebrations with a colourful procession on Friday afternoon.
The marchers went past the Chittagong MA Aziz Outdoor Stadium, Lalkhan Bazaar Ispahani crossing, WASA intersection and returned to the stadium by taking the Dampara MM Ali Road and the Almas Cinema Hall intersection.
Mayor Manzur unveiled a commemorative stone plaque at one end of the Dampara MM Ali Road.
City corporation officials and employees, ward councillors and students of various schools and colleges run by the civic body joined the procession.
On Saturday, the second day of the celebrations, Local Government Minister Syed Ashraful Islam will take part in a discussion in the port city. Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Ameen, Industries Minister Dilip Barua and Environment Minister Hasan Mahmud will be there too.
Besides, commemorative books will be launched that day and former mayors, administrators and chairmen will be felicitated.
Corporation officials and employees would get together on Sunday, the concluding day.
The Chittagong municipal committee was formed on June 22, 1863. It was later converted into a municipality and upgraded to a Municipal Corporation in 1982. It was turned into a city corporation in 1990.
