Chuadanga district BNP office torched

The district unit office of BNP was torched allegedly by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists on Thursday evening following a crude bomb attack on their procession.

Police and witnesses said the BCL activists brought out a jubilant procession from the jail gate in the town after the release of their leader Abdul Momen from the prison.

As the procession reached Kedarganj area, unidentified miscreants hurled two crude bombs at it, leaving five people injured.

Suspecting the involvement of BNP men in the attack, the BCL men burst into anger and damaged some vehicles on the streets and a few shops and business establishments, including the construction house of a BNP leader.

At one stage, the BCL men marched towards the BNP office at Shaheed Abul Kashem Road and damaged it. Later, they set it on fire.

On January 6, some BCL men reportedly hacked another BCL leader, Sumon, and cut his tendon over a factional feud.

Police on Monday arrested Abdul Momen suspecting his involvement in the incident and sent him to jail.

Momen was released in the evening as the court granted him bail in the case.
