City polls won’t be allowed to impact nat’l election: FM

Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni said here on Saturday the ruling party will find out the reasons behind defeats of the party-backed candidates in the five city corporation elections and will take proper steps to avoid its negative impact on the national election.“It’ll be found out why the Awami League candidates have got defeated. And proper steps will be taken so that its impact doesn’t fall on the national elections,” the AL joint secretary general said.
The Foreign Minister came up with the remarks while talking to journalists at Chandpur Circuit House auditorium. Local AL leaders were also present.
She said they would put in their best efforts to reach the messages regarding development works of the government to the doorsteps of people.
Besides, Dipu Moni said, the party will also detect what type of confusion played the role in causing defeats to AL candidates. “If anything happened for correction, Awami League as a party of the mass people will take corrective measures.”
On iqama transfer, Dipu Moni said BNP-Jamaat alliance has always said the Saudi government would not give Bangladesh a scope to change iqama if Awami League remains in power. “Their claim has been proved wrong. The Saudi government has given the chance to change iqama.”
Responding to another question, she said the government is working to bring back seven Bangladeshis now detained in the hands of Somalia pirates. “We’ve even taken special initiatives to that end.”
