Clash aboard trawlers: 1 feared drowned, 2 hurt

A fisherman was feared drowned and two others injured during a clash
aboard trawlers between two rival groups over fishing hilsa in the
Baleshwar River at Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat on Monday.
Two fishermen were also injured during the clash.
The missing fisherman was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 28, of
Harinpala village in the upazila.
Police said the clash ensued as two groups of fishermen — one from
Harinpala village of Bhandaria upazila and the other from Amragachia
village of Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district—went to catch hilsa
at the same point of the river around 12.00 noon.
At one stage, the fishermen from Amragachia village severely beat
fishermen of Harinpala with sticks and oars, leaving three of them
,including Rafiqul, injured.
Hit by the rivals, Rafiqul also fell into the river and went down deep.
However, injured Sumon and Mamun alleged to police that fishermen of
Amragachia dumped the body of Rafiqul in the river after killing him,
said Bhandaria Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Matiur Rahman.
Police detained eight people including trawler owner Bellal of
Amragachia for interrogation, added the OC.
