More than 100 people were injured as rivals locked into a clash over a
piece of disputed land at Barochatul village in Kanaighat upazila of
the district on Wednesday.
Of the injured, 23 were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College
Hospital in critical condition while the rest took treatment from the
local upazila health complex.
Sources said union parishad member Almas Uddin Chowdhury and Mir M
Abdullah of the village had been at loggerheads over a piece of
disputed land for long and also been locked in a legal battle over the
issue.
Supporters of both Almas and Abdullah went to the land to take
possession of it in the morning and then a clash ensued, leaving 100
people from both sides injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation
