At least 20 people were injured in a clash between local activists of
Awami League (AL) and BNP over forming a mosque committee at Godai
Rupsi village in Bhangura upazila of the district on Monday night.
Of the injured, 11 were admitted to Pabna Sadar Hospital while the
rest given first aid treatment.
Local sources said there was a meeting between two groups of AL and
BNP activists, one led by Bhangura upazila unit AL general secretary
Baki Billa and the other led by the upazila unit BNP general secretary
Noor Mujahid Swapan, on the premises of Godai Rupsi Jame Mosque around
4.00pm over forming a working committee for the mosque.
At one stage, a brawl ensued between the two groups and then they
locked in a clash with sticks, leaving 20 people injured from both
sides.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation
under control.
Sub-inspector of Bhangura Police Station Abdul Mannan said police
visited the injured at the hospital, but no one lodged any complaint
