A college student was stabbed to death while a local Awami League leader shot and wounded by unidentified miscreants at Bashpatti in the district on Monday night.The deceased was identified as Saifullah, 20, son of Siddiqur Rahman, hailing from Mubarakpur village in Monirampur upazila and a student of class XII of Jessore Upashahar Degree College.Officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station Enamul Hoque said Saifullah was stabbed by the miscreants while going to buy books to Bashpatti adjacent to Jessore Collectorate Building around 8.30 pm, leaving him critically injured.He was later recovered by some pedestrians and taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.In another incident, Faridul Islam Farid, joint secretary of Jessore Sadar upazila, was shot in front of his home at Churamonkati in Sadar upazila in the evening.He was also sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital with critical wounds.
