Complete Ekram killing trial in 6 months: SC

Dhaka – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court onSunday directed the concerned subordinate court of Feni to dispose off the trial in a case filed in connection with Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque killing, within six months.Besides, the apex court also cancelled a HC order that granted bail to local BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in the case.
The three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after disposing off an appeal filed by the Government challenging the HC verdict.
On November 24, last year, the HC following a bail petition filed by Minar granted him bail in the case. Ekram, 45, President of Awami League upazila unit, was shot and burnt to death in his car in Feni town's Academy area on May 20, 2014.
Rezaul Haque Jasim, victim’s brother, filed the murder case with Feni Model Police Station the same day, accusing Minar and other 30 to 35 unnamed persons. – Special Correspondent
