Court allows police for Avijit’s DNA test thru US FBI

A court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) gave permission to police to conduct DNA test of slain blogger Avijit Roy through US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBA).
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka Bikash Kumar Shaha passed the order yesterday after hearing the appeal of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch of Police.Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Fazlur Rahman, who is also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case lodged in connection with the murder submitted two petitions to the court seeking permission to collect a sample of the DNA of the body of writer and blogger Avijit from Dhaka Medical College Hospital and handover it to the FBI with the seized items of the evidence of the murder for test in FBI’s laboratory.
Monirul Islam of the DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), on Monday said: “The evidence includes a severed finger of Avijit’s wife Bonna, two machetes and a bag, all collected from near the TSC roundabout on the Dhaka University campus.”
On February 26 night, Avijit Roy, a US citizen and an engineer by profession was hacked to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna critically injured by miscreants near the TSC of Dhaka University. Later, Bonna flew to the USA for treatment. – Court Correspondent
