Court rejects Khoka’s remand, bail

Two courts of Dhaka on Wednesday denied bail of BNP Vice-Chairman and convener of Dhaka city unit Sadeque Hossain Khoka and remand against him in two cases filed with Sutrapur and Paltan Police Stations for killing people by torching passenger bus and sedition.The courts directed law enforcers to interrogate Khoka at the jail gate, within 10 days, if necessary. The courts also ordered the authorities to send back Khoka to the jail. The Investigation Officers of the cases produced Khoka to the court with a 10-day remand prayer for each of the cases to quiz him.
Metropolitan Magistrates Md Tareque Moinul Islam Bhuiyan and Maruf Hassan passed the orders in two cases.
One of the cases were filed by Paltan police against Khoka on December 7 for provoking party men to go for violence while Sutrapur Police Station police filed the the other case after a man was killed as miscreants set fire to a leguna in Old Dhaka on November 9.
On December 4, Sadeque Hossain Khoka was arrested from City’s Uttara area. On Dec 5, a Dhaka court placed Khoka on a two-day remand in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
Advocates Sanaullah Miah, Abdullah Hasan, Md Mohsin Mia, Hossain Mia Alam, Iqbal Hossain, Mohi Uddin Chowdhuty and other lawyers moved the bail petition and opposed the remand plea. While on behalf of the prosecution, Additional Public Prosecutor Shah Alam made submission supporting the remand plea and opposing the bail petition. – Staff Reporter
