Court takes cognizance of charges in blogger Rajib murder case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday accepted charge sheets against eight persons and took cognizance of the charges against the accused, including Mufit M Jasimuddin Rahmani, Chief of Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, in the blogger Ahmed  Rajib Haider murder case. Magistrate Sabrinal Ali of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka accepted the charge sheet in the morning. Moreover, the court issued an arrest warrant against absconding accused Redwanul Azad alias Rana. The court fixed March 20 for hearing in the case.
The other accused people are Faisal Bin Nayeem alias Dwip, Maksudul Hasan alias Anik, Mohammad Ehsan Reza alias Rumman, Nayeem Sikder alias Irad, Nafiz Imtiaz and Sadman Yasir Mahmud. Rana and these six accused are former students of North South University. The seven accused are behind the bar.
On January 28, the charge sheet against Mufit M Jasimuddin Rahmani and seven others was submitted to the court after investigation in the case.
Rajib, known as ‘Thaba Baba’ in the blogger community, was an active activist of Shahbagh protests, had been allegedly hacked to death in front of his house in Palashnagar in the city’s Mirpur area on February 15, 2013.
Later, Rajib’s father Nazim Uddin filed a case with Pallabi Police Station in the city. – Court Correspondent
