Ctg gunfight: JL leader Babar with 5 others held

Police arrested Jubo League central committee member Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar and his five associates from the capital early Wednesday in connection with Monday’s gunfight that killed two people. A joint team of Chittagong Kotwali Police Station, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Gulshan police arrested them from a residence at Gulshan in the capital in the early hours.
The other arrested are Premasis Mutsuddi alias Chhotan Barua, Shah Alam, Polash Das, Robi Dey and Mazharul Islam.
With fresh arrest, a total of 58 leaders and activists of Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have so far been arrested in connection with the gunfight between the two wings of the ruling Awami League.
Earlier, police arrested 52 Jubo League and BCL men in this connection.
A local court on Tuesday placed 44 of them on a one-day remand and allowed police to interrogate the eight other underage BCL men at the jail gate for one day.
They were shown arrested in a case filed against 127 leaders and activists of Jubo League and BCL.
Mahibur Rahman, sub-inspector (SI) of Kotwali Police Station, filed the case against 87 named and 40 unnamed activists of both the wings of the Awami League on Monday night.
Saiful Alam Limon, former Chittagong Commerce College unit BCL president Didarul Alam and Babar were among the accused.
Two people, including a minor boy, were killed and another person was injured during a gunfight between Jubo League and BCL men over dropping a railway tender in the city’s CRB area on Monday morning. (Source: UNB)
