Daughter testifies in Humayun Azad case

Mouli Azad, daughter of Professor Humayun Azad testified on Thursday in the murder case of her father at Dhaka’s Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.Later, a former student of Dhaka University, Shariful Hassan testified Thursday.
Judge AHM Habibur Rahman of the court recorded the depositions of two witnesses.
Mouli Azad was at the residence while Shariful Hassan was at the Teacher Student Centre of Dhaka University during the incident. None of them disclosed any name of the accused persons during their depositions.
Sharif told the court that hearting the sound he went to the spot and found a man lying there. None was helping him. However, tuning the body he found Dr Humayun Azad there. He tried to take the body to the hospital by a rickshaw and a car.
As the concerned rickshaw puller and the driver did not agree, the injured Azad was later brought to the hospital in a police car.
Four banned outfit JMB Sura members and accused in the case were brought to the court on the occasion. Another accused Nur Mohammad is on the run.
On February 27, 2004, some miscreants attacked Humayan Azad near TSC while he was returning home from Ekushey Book Fair, leaving him seriously injured. After months of treatment he went to Germany for research and died there on August 11, 2004.
His body was broughtfrom a flat in Munich on August 12.
A case was filed for attempt to murder but later murder charges were pressed with a supplementary charge sheet submitted in May 13, 2012.
On April 30, 2012, CID inspector Lutfar Rahman submitted charge sheet to the court making five JMB men accused in the case.
The court indicted five people on September 10,2012. They are from the banned Islamist outfit, Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh.
