The High Court on Monday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the decision to drop the names of 22 freedom fighters of Gaibandha from the list of 479 listed freedom fighters should not be declared illegal. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.
Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice M Khasruzzaman issued the rule after hearing a petition.
The court also stayed the effectiveness of the decision for six months.
Liberation War Affairs Secretary, officials of Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JMC) and Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
Barrister Toufik Enam along with Barrister Galib Ahmed stood for the freedom fighters while Deputy Attorney General Tapos Kumar Bishwas represented the state.
On April 7, Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JMC) took a decision to drop the names of 22 freedom fighters from the gazette list although they had been getting allowance.
Abu Hannan Sarker who is among the 22 freedom fighters filed the writ petition with the High Court on Sunday.
