Defamation against Tareque fixed on Dec 30

A Dhaka court on Thursday deferred the date for submission of a probe report to December 30 in a case filed against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tareque Rahman for making derogatory remarks against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.Magistrate Emdadul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order as the police of Paltan Police Station did not submit any probe report on the day. On September 17, the court had fixed November 5, for submission of the report.

Earlier, on March 23 of this year, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Projonmo President Fazlul Karim Arif Patwari filed the case with Dhaka CMM Court against Tareque and BNP foreign affairs envoy Jahid F Sardar Saadi for demeaning Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, calling him a friend of Pakistan.

The case statement further says that while addressing a meeting in London on December 15, last year, Tareque allegedly called Bangabandhu a “Razakar”, a term which means collaboration with Pakistan military during the War of Liberation of 1971.
