Demo for fair polls, protest against ‘crossfire’ killings Saturday

The Bnp-led 20-Party Alliance has called a programme of countrywide demonstration on Saturday to press the demand for election under non-partisan caretaker government and protest killing of 20-party leaders and activists in the name of ‘crossfire’. The blockade would continue, Bnp joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed announced through a statement issued on Thursday.
The soft programme was announced hours before the ending of a 5-day-long hartal at 6:00pm.
The BNP leader however warned that they would announce tougher action including hartals side by side the ongoing blocade programme if required.In his statement Salahuddin Ahmed said that the whole nation observed with great concern that food and water supply to the office of Bnp chairperson Khaleda Zia remained stopped by the government since Wednesday evening. As a result those staying at the Gulshan office including Khaleda Zia are starving. He alleged that the government was conspiring to kill Khaleda Zia by resorting to a policy of ‘killing by withholding the supply of rice and water’.
He said that the government has set the worst barbarous and mean example in dealing with Khaleda Zia as its hated techniques of torture using water canon, sand-laden trucks and pepper spray did not succeed to deter her from the movement to restore the rights of the people.
In his statement the Bnp leader prayed for salvation of those leaders and activists of the 20-Party Alliance who have been killed in ‘crossfire’ and the innocent people killed in petrol bombs hurled by miscreants.
