Deposition begins in Biswajit killing case

A Dhaka court on Sunday started to record the depositions of the complainant in the much-talked-about Biswajit murder case.Judge-in-Charge of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4, Dewan Md Shafiqullah recorded the depositions of the complainant of the case- Sutrapur Police Station Sub-Inspector Jalal Uddin and fixed July 21 to record the depositions of other witnesses.
Of the 21 accused in the case, 13 were produced in the courtroom on Sunday. The remaining eight accused are on the run.
On December 9, last year, Biswajit Das, a 24-year-old tailor, was killed in an attack by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists at a place adjacent to the capital’s Bahadur Shah Park in front of Jagannath University.
On March 5, this year Detective Branch (DSB) of Police submitted charges against 21 accused for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Twenty-one BCL activists of Jagannath University were indicted on June 2 for the murder.
On June 30, the case was sent to the Speedy Trial Trubunal-4 of Dhaka from the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court following a decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
