Dhaka-Delhi happy over implementation of joint declaration

Bangladesh and India have expressed satisfaction over the progress of implementation of Joint Declaration issued by the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and Indi in June last year.The expression came when Foreign Secretary Md. Shahidul Haque met with his Indian counterpart Dr. S. Jaishankar at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi last evening (Monday).Shahidul Haque is on a two-day bilateral visit to New Delhi at the invitation of Indian counterpart, according to message received here today.During the talks, the two sides discussed the whole range of bilateral issues including peace and security, water resources management, power and energy sector cooperation, trade, business and investment, development and sub-regional cooperation, connectivity, regional and multilateral cooperation and people-to-people contact.

Taking stock of the Joint Declaration issued by the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India in June last year, the two sides expressed satisfaction at the progress of its implementation so far.In the meeting, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary briefed Indian foreign secretary on Bangladesh’s chairmanship of the 9th Global Forum on Migration and Development to be held in Dhaka in December 2016.Foreign Secretary is scheduled to meet India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Special Secretary of Water Resources Ministry Dr. Amarjit Singh today, the message added.
