Dhaka-Washington 3rd security dialogue in city Tuesday

Bangladesh and the United States (US) will hold ‘Security Dialogue’ here on Tuesday to discuss issues like maritime security, counterterrorism and disaster risk management. This will be the third dialogue on security issues between the two countries which will be held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), said an official at the Foreign Ministry on Monday. The dialogue will include discussions on maritime security, counterterrorism, disaster risk management, peacekeeping, law enforcement, nonproliferation, joint military exercises and exchanges, and other security issues, US Embassy Spokesperson Kelly McCarthy told UNB. “The dialogue reflects our growing defense relationship with Bangladesh, and our shared commitment to peace and prosperity in the region,” she said. Mustafa Kamal, Secretary (Bilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will lead Bangladesh side to the dialogue while Tom Kelly, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, will lead the US delegation. Atul Keshap, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of State, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, will also join the dialogue. The first such dialogue was held in Dhaka on April 19, 2012 while the second one in Washington in April, 2013. – UNB
