After the record breaking local and international success of his debut cop thriller “Dhaka Attack,” director Dipankar Dipon has announced a new film based on the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police. The unit consists of members of the Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Border Guards Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Ansar.
The film titled “Operation Sundarban” will be produced by the RAB Forces Welfare Trust and Three Wheelers. The announcement came at a press conference held in Gulshan on Thursday.
Renowned cultural personality Hasan Imam and RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed were present at the event as chief guests; while the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation’s (BFDC) Managing Director Md Abdul Karim was the special guest. BFDC’s Film Director Association President Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar and RAB Assistant Director General (Operations) Jahangir Alam were also present at the event.
Dipon told the press: “Our RAB forces have been working tirelessly and efficiently to prevent crime in the world’s largest mangrove forest, the Sundarbans. Even a few years ago, the forest was full of pirates, and as a result, the Sundarbans was a place feared by the ordinary people. Local Fishermen and honey extractors could not earn their livelihoods. These pirates and robbers are nowhere to be found now. Our RAB, and their operations in that region, had a huge impact in changing the life and livelihood of the locals. The film will be based on those operations.”
The director also said that the press conference was an MoU-signing ceremony between RAB and Three Wheelers and the names of the cast will be revealed after they are finalized. The film’s production will start this year and is scheduled to be released in 2020.
Dipankar Dipon is currently also busy with two upcoming films. One is “Dhaka Attack 2: Mission Extreme” which is a sequel of his debut film. The other one is titled “Do or Die” which is going to be the first Bangladeshi airborne action film. It will chronicle Operation Kilo Flight, the Mukti Bahini combat aviation formation assembled by some brave Bangladeshi fighter pilots during the Liberation War in 1971.
