Don’t take extra tuition fees, Viqarunnisa school asked

Dhaka – The High Court yesterday asked authorities concerned of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka not to collect extra tuition fees from its students for the next one year.The HC also issued a rule asking the authorities to explain why enhancement of tuition fees by Tk 300 for each of the school student while Tk 500 for its each college student by institution’s ad-hoc management committee, should not be declared illegal.
In response to a writ petition, the HC bench comprising Justice Zinat Ara and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order.
A guardian Md Eunus Ali Akond, also a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the petition challenging the legality of collection of extra tuition fees imposed by the adhoc managing committee, which was declared illegal by the High Court Division earlier.
Education secretary, chairman of Dhaka education board, deputy commissioner of Dhaka, chairmen of ad-hoc committees of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Ideal School and Willes Little Flower School and their principals have been made respondents to reply to the rule.
Later Akond told reporters that the authorities concerned of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College has been illegally collecting additional Tk 500 from its college student and Tk 300 from its school students and Tk 500 from the students for the welfare of its teachers and staff from January this year through the ad hoc committee.
The school authority collected the extra fees after the board of Viqarunnisa Noon School management committee formed the ad hoc committee under Section 39 of the Private School and College Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations, 2009. – Staff Reporter
