DUJ-BFUJ condemn mass sacking of journalists

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Sunday condemned and expressed grave concern at the recent sacking of 70 journalists and employees from two newspapers – ‘Bangladesh News’ and ‘Din Poriborton’.

In a press statement, the BFUJ and DUJ leaders alleged that some dishonest businessmen have surfaced in the media world bring out newspapers with ulterior motives. They appoint journalists by bringing them from different established media houses and suddenly shut the newspaper or sack the journalists after their purpose is served, they said. This creates unemployment in the media sector, they added.

Such unprecedented condition was created by ‘Bangladesh News’ and ‘Din Poriborton’ authorities that can’t be acceptable, they asserted. They demanded Information Ministry’s intervention in this regard. BFUJ acting president Shahid Ul Alam, secretary general Omar Faruq, DUJ president Abu Jafar Surjo and general secretary Sohel Haidar jointly issued the statement.
