E-Governance not possible under present govt: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday said that the government’s move to reach the domain of E-Governance will not be possible within the tenure of the present government and it will take a little more time.“E-Governance will not be possible within our tenure and it will take a little more time… that was also not our target,” he said while inaugurating the three-day “Sylhet E- Commerce Fair and Digital Innovation Fair 2013” through video conference from his Secretariat office.
The fair is being jointly organized by ‘Computer Jagat’ and Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sylhet with the support of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and Sylhet Divisional Commissioner.
The Finance Minister said main reason for not reaching E-Governance is that all the ministries, institutions and agencies of the government are yet to come under full electronic system although exchange of some official letters are in practice there.
He noted that once the government reached E-Governance, it will not only enable to curb corruption, but also bring a big change in the structure of services alongside ensuring transparency as well as maintaining highest secrecy of government documents.
Referring to the present government’s election pledge of building ‘Digital Bangladesh’, Muhith said that the country has advanced a lot on information collection, dissemination and rendering different services through the use of ICT.
He observed that e-commerce will save time for the stakeholders and businessmen and it will serve the purpose of consumer business.
The Finance Minister also expressed his optimism that with the launching of countrywide district web portals, the e-commerce services will spread across the country within the next four months although may not be on a big scale. UNB
