Election Commission to meet President Tuesday

An Election Commission delegation will meet President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday to apprise him of the preparations made so far for the 10th parliamentary election.Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad will lead the team comprising the Election Commissioners and the Commission Secretary to the Bangabhaban.
The meeting has been scheduled at 4pm, Tuesday, a letter from Bangabhaban to the EC has confirmed.
“We have communicated with the Bangabhaban over the phone,” EC Md Shah Nawaz told reporters in his office on Sunday.
“The President has given us an appointment. We will inform him of our preparations and other relevant matters during the meeting.”
Earlier, the EC, in a letter sent on Thursday, had sought a meeting with the President.
When asked if the polls schedule would be announced after the meeting, Shah Nawaz said, “The commission is yet to hold a meeting about the election schedule.
“One of the Election Commissioners is out of the country. We will meet and announce the schedule after he returns.”
Disagreement between Bangladesh’s major political parties over the nature of the polls-time government has pushed the country into a crisis.
As per the provisions of the 15th amendment to the Constitution, the 10th national election must be held within Jan 24.-bdnews.com
