ETV Chairman placed on 5-day remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday placed ETV Chairman Abdus Salam on a five-day remand in a sedition case filed for airing an alleged false, fabricated and instigating speech of BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman on his television channel.
Magistrate Waezkuruni Khan Chowdhury passed the order after ABM Moshiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC), Investigation of Tejgaon Police Station and also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced Abdus Salam to his court with a ten-day remand prayer.On January 8, a Sub-Inspector lodged the case with Tejgaon Police Station of the city against the ETV Chairman Salam and BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique accusing Tarique, Salam and other alleged conspirators who tried to create anarchy through the speech broadcast live on Ekushey Television on January 5.
Earlier, Salam was detained on January 6 from his Karwan Bazar office on January 6 and shown arrested that afternoon in another case filed under the Pornography Control Act 2012. A day after the arrest, Salam was sent to jail by a Dhaka court denying his bail plea. – Court Correspondent
