Ex-BCL leader stabbed dead in Sirajganj

Dhaka – A former local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was stabbed to death by rivals during a clash in Sirajganj municipality area on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Abdul Malek, 28, former religious affairs secretary of the municipality unit BCL and son of Sanwar Hossain of Dattabari area of the municipality. Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, said there had been a dispute between Nazrul Islam, former general secretary of Jubo League’s ward-8 unit of the municipality, and Abu Musa, Malek’s brother, over money.Nazrul and Musa locked into an altercation around 12 noon at Dattabari over the issue.The altercation turned into a clash between two rival groups. At one stage, Malek was stabbed by a knife, leaving him critically injured. He died on the way to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital. A case was filed with the police station and police arrested Nazrul and five others in this connection, the OC said, adding that additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to fend off further trouble.UNB news agency
