Dhaka, Oct 1 – Barrister Nazmul Huda has filed a case against former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, accusing him of corruption and abuse of his power.
Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station confirmed to the independent and said Barrister Nazmul Huda filed a “corruption case” against Sinha with Shahbagh Police Station on September 27.“We’ve forwarded the case to the Anti-Corruption Commission as it is consistent with the law and investigation of the commission,” said the OC
Huda was former communication minister of the then BNP-led government and was a standing committee member of the party.
He is currently the chief of Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA) also trying to get in touch with the ruling AL.
Justice Sinha submitted his resignation letter as chief justice on November 10. The president accepted his resignation on November 14.
Recently Sinha wrote his autobiography where he said about his early life, his appointment as Chief Justice of Bangladesh, the separation of power and the independence of the judiciary, 16th amendment to the constitution and its aftermath, ethical values of judges of the highest court and politicians, and the circumstances behind his resignation.
Earlier on Monday, the ACC said it was investigating allegations against Justice Sinha’s brother Ananta Kumar Sinha that he had laundered money to purchase a three-storey house in the US.
“The commission initiated an inquiry into Ananta Kumar Sinha for charges of purchasing a house worth $280,000 in the US, amassing illegal wealth, and money laundering,” ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told said.
The ACC recently quizzed a former managing director of the Farmers Bank and five other officials of the bank as it is weighing whether to start an investigation against Justice Sinha over a Tk 40 million corruption allegation. – Staff Reporter
