Fakhrul secures bail in Bangabandhu defamation case

A Dhaka court yesterday (Tuesday) granted bail to BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed on the charge of defaming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Magistrate Ataul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka allowed bail to Mirza Fakhrul after hearing on a petition moved by defence Advocate Joynul Abedin Mezbah.Fakhrul was sued for his comments in programme of September, 2014 where he said that Bangabandhu had uttered ‘Joy Pakistan’ at the end of his historic
Speech of March 7, 2071. He also said that Bangabandhu did not announce the independence of Bangladesh at the programme of former Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman.
Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddique filed the defamation case against Mirza Fakhrul on September 8 last year. The case was lodged with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Hakim Erfan Ullah.
On January 20, this year, Dhaka,s Magistrate Magistrate Anwar Sadat issued a warrant arrest Mirza Fakhrul. – Special Representative
