Female found locked in slain RU teacher’s house detained

Rajshahi police has detained a master’s level female student who was found inside the locked house of slain RU teacher Prof Shafiul Islam.
The student was found inside the sociology department teacher’s locked house in Chouddapai area, adjacent to the university campus, on Saturday after he was murdered, said Rajshahi Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman.
“The student was found locked inside the teacher’s house. She is now at the Victim Support Centre with her mother. We are questioning her too.”She was a sociology department student, he said. After learning the student’s name, RU’s sociology department Chairman Prof Wardatul Akmam saidt she was waiting for her masters results.
Prof Shafiul Islam died after being hacked by assailants on Saturday afternoon.
A Facebook page, named Ansar al Islam Bangladesh-2, opened a few hours after the attack took responsibility for murder.
But police could not confirm if there was a militant group active in Bangladesh by that name, or if it was a ploy to distract investigators from the real criminals.
However, they have detained 34 people over the killing and showed 11 of them arrested in the murder case.
The arrested  persons include the principal of Rajshahi’s Islamia Degree College.
