Fierce battle between dacoits for supremacy in Sunderbans

A fierce battle took place between the 2 rival groups of
jungle pirates at Charputia under Chandpai forest range in the Eastern
Division of Sundarban forest in order to establish supremacy over each
other in the forest, according to a report received here. The winning
Bahini of the jungle pirates looted the arms and ammunitions of the
defeated party after tying the members of it with the trees of the
forest.
It is learnt from the fishermen and the fish traders who
returned from the forest that on Friday in the morning the battle took
place between Azahar Bahini and Sabuj Bahini at Charputia and at one
stage Sabuj Bahini retreated and fled away from there. Then Azahar
Bahini chased them, caught 7 members including the ring leader of
Sabuj Bahini, beat them severely, tied them with the trees and looted
their arms and ammunitions. It is learnt from the source that at
present Azahar Bahini consists of 24 members and they have 20 fire
arms in their possession. Members of both the gangs of jungle pirates
were committing dacoities in the different places under Chanpai forest
range. But the law enforcing authority can not ascertain the incident.
Amir Hossain Chowdhury, DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of the Eastern
Demission tells the newsmen that he is not aware of this. He adds that
he is trying to know the matter. Sabuj Bahini was formed under
Dhangmari forest area within Chandpai Range in the Eatern Division of
Sundarban forest while Azahjar Bahini was formed in Coira area under
Naliyan forest range in the Western Division of the forest. Very often
such fighting takes place among the small gangs of jungle pirates over
the expansion of their supremacy. It is further learnt from the source
that with the departure of Raju, the ring leader of the most powerful
gang of jungle pirates from the country to a neighbouring country it
(Raju Bahini) was spilled into a number  small factions. Those small
and less powerful gangs are now committing dacoities in the fishing
trawlers and fishing boats in the forest and in the Bay of Bengal.
It may be mentioned here that a number ring leaders of the
jungle pirates were killed in the arms encounter with the law
enforcers and their huge arms and ammunitions were recovered. But they
were not completely subdued. – Our Correspiondent
