First day of 60-hr hartal in dists

The first day of a 60-hour hartal, enforced by Islami Chhatra Shibir in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts, passed off amid some stray incidents of violence on Monday.Shibir, the associate student body of Jamaat-e-Islami, enforced the shutdown demanding the release of its Rajshahi city unit leader Anwarul Islam Masum.
The hartal will end at 6pm on Wednesday.
No major untoward incident was reported during the hartal hours on Monday.
In Chapainawabganj, a crude bomb was exploded at Shibtala intersection from a procession of Shibir activists brought out from the district Jamaat office at Boro Indara intersection of the town at around 6:45am.
Earlier, two more crude bombs exploded in front of the district Jamaat office in the morning.
Shibir activists blocked the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid road while picketing took place in Uparajarampur area of Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi highway in the morning.
In Rajshahi, pickets burnt tyres and blocked the road during the strike at Hadi intersection of the town in the morning.
Hartal activists burnt tyres on the Kapashia bypass road in the town and blocked the road by placing logs in the morning. They also vandalised a truck in the area at the same time.
Anwarul Islam Masum, city unit office secretary of Shibir, remained untraced since a team of Rab-5 picked him up in the early hours of April 4. UNB
