Five ‘militants’ held in Tongi

Dhaka – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed to have arrested five suspected members of two militant outfits conducting separate drives in Tongi Station Road and Signboard areas of the city early Wednesday, UNB news agency reported.The arrestees were identified as Rasheduzzaman Rush, acting southern region ameer of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Sahabuddin, Firoz and Saiful, members of the outfit, and Abul Hye, a leader of another militant outfit Ahl al-Hadith.
Major Ajam, second-in-command of RAB-1, said on secret information, a team of Rab conducted a drive in Tongi Station Road area around 12.30am arrested Rush, Hye and Sahabuddin.
Based on information gleaned from them, a team of the elite force conducted another drive in Chhoidana and Hajirpur of Signboard area and arrested Firoj and Saiful from their shops.
Rab also recovered a pistol along with eight rounds of bullet, three MGs, some detonators, explosives substance, three crude bombs, jihadi books, bomb making materials and a bomb hidden inside a computer CPU, added the Rab official.
