Four missing as boat capsizes in BD part of the Ganga

Dhaka, May 1 – Four people went missing as a boat capsized in the Ganga River in Dargapara area of Rajshahi city on Sunday evening during a violent localised storm.
Three of the missing people are—Sarwer Hossain Rafiq, 45, Robin, 28, Asadul, 45, some local people said.Shahdat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station, said the boat carrying six passengers sank in the river around 7pm as a nor’wester lashed the district.
Two passengers swam shore while four others remained still missing.
Divers of fire service started rescue operation on Monday morning, the OC said.
The Ganga that enters Bamgladesh via Rajshahi retains the same nomenclature till it joins the Jamuna little over 100 kilometres downstream of the Farakka Barrage in India. The joint flow is called the Padma till it joins the Meghna and assumes this new name. This flows into the Bay of Bengal. – GW Desk with UNB
