Four-year-old boy’s body retrieved from Dhaka sewer

Dhaka -The body of four-year-old Zunayed Hossain Sabbir, who fell into a sewer in the city’s Mirpur area on Thursday, was recovered on Friday morning, ending a nervy wait of 19 hours.Abdullah Arefin, senior station officer of Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said city corporation workers retrieved the body some 150/200 metres away from the point where Zunayed fell.
Rabiul Islam, a cleaning worker of Dhaka North City Corporation, said he found the body of Zunayed while cleaning garbage near a water pump around 10:45 am.
Earlier, the operation to rescue the boy resumed this morning after a pause of four and a half hours.
Four divers from Fire Service started again the operation around :30am.
Anwar Hossain, deputy assistant director of Fire Service Headquarters, said getting no trace of the sunken boy, the divers had losed the search operation around 10:30am.
Zunayed Hossain Sabbir, 4, son of Amir Hossain, hailing from Noakhali, fell into the two kilometer long and 4-5 feet wide sewerage line near Mirpur Commerce College in Mirpur-3 in the afternoon.
Quoting family members, Anwar Hossain, said Sabbir had gone missing around 3am while playing in Rupali Housing area in Mirpur section-3.
On information, three fire-fighting units and divers rushed in and started the rescue operation around 8:40 pm.
As they could not find the whereabouts of the boy, the rescue operation was suspended at 3am.
