‘Gayeshwar, Rizvi unimportant leaders’: Sk Selim

Awami League Presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim has described BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as unimportant leaders.
The ruling party MP said in Parliament on Tuesday, “The elephant’s kick can be sustained, but the bat’s mockery can’t be tolerated.”Earlier, on Sunday, speaking as the chief guest at the council session of Tejgaon and Tejgaon Industrial thana units of the party, Selim had said, “The hands and legs of those indulging in subversive acts in the name of movements will be chopped off.”
“According to the Constitution, election would be held after five years, and that election would be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said, adding that Khaleda Zia ‘would have to take part in that election’.
BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday criticised the Awami League MP for calling opposition activists anarchists and threatening physical assault.
Issuing a counter threat, Gayeshwar said they would give Selim a fitting reply at the appropriate time.
Rizvi accused the AL MP of trying to “create anarchy and chaos in the country” by making such provocative statements.
Regarding the criticisms by the two BNP leaders, Selim said in Parliament, “My remarks were about those indulging in anarchy and terrorism. But their (Gayeshwar and Rizvi) reactions prove that their party is a militant and terrorist party.”
He said the BNP leaders had jumped to the conclusion that they were being referred to, thus betraying their guilt.
“We’re ready for your reply,” Selim said, throwing a challenge at Gayeshwar.
Selim accused the BNP of spreading misinformation to target the Awami League after having forgone its representation in Parliament by boycotting the 10th general election.
“They (the BNP leader) are calling press conferences and resorting to false propaganda to make Madam (BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia) happy.”
He alleged the BNP had links with militants and urged the state minister for home to launch an investigation.
Speaking in Parliament after Selim’s address, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, “We know why the BNP is angry over Sheikh Selim’s remarks. BNP’s Senior Vice Chairman (Tarique Rahman) held meeting with notorious underworld kingpin Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai. And now his (Tarique) followers are issuing threats.” – bdnews24.com
