Gendaria OC sustains bullet injuries in raid; 14 arrested in 2 raids

Officer-in-Charge of Gendaria Police station sustained bullet injuries in an encounter with robbers during a raid at Namapara slum area of Gendaria early Sunday.Police arrested seven robbers, including four with bullet injuries, from the spot and recovered a pistol, three bullets and three knives and locally made sharp weapons from the spot.
Based on a tip-off that a group robbers numbering 12-14 were holding a secret meeting to plan a robbery, a special team of Gendaria police station led by OC Kazi Mizanur Rahman carried out a raid under a blackberry tree near Namapara slum at around 12:45 am, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) of (Wari Division) of DMP Nurul Islam.
Briefing reporters at the DMP media centre on Sunday, the DC (Wari) said sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gangsters opened fire on them. Police at that point responded returning fire, he said.
During exchange of fire, OC Kazi Mizanur Rahman sustained bullet injuries to his leg. He is now undergoing treatment at Rajarbagh police station.
After a brief exchange of fire, police arrested seven robbers– Milon alias Van Milon alias Sajib, 27, Swapan, 25, Sajib alias Raju alias Kajol, 22, Masud Alias Kala Masud, 22, Minto, 21, Rony, 23, and Sagar, 21.
The others fled the scene, said the DC, adding that of the arrestees, Milon, Swapan and Sajib also sustained bullet injuries in the incident.
The injured robbers were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile in a separate drive, Wari thana police arrested seven robbers from an open space near Shamibagh Wonderland park around 2:45 am on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Wari police station conducted the drive and arrested the seven robbers—Liton, 20, Shukur Ali, 20, Tareq, 24, Omar Faruk, 20, Alauddin, Kamal Hossain and Ridoy Hossain.
Police also recovered two sharp weapons and tools for cutting grills.
