Govt can’t avoid liability for Salahuddin disappearance: Khaleda

Voicing grave concern over ‘the ’tracelessness’ of her party joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday said the government cannot avoid its responsibility for this.
In a statement she said, “An extremely unusual situation has been created in the country due to the whims of this unrepresentative regime. It’s arresting, abducting and killing people and making anyone disappeared anytime as it wishes. The bodies of many people are being found while many more remain missing after their arrest.”The BNP chief said, “The tendency of denial after the arrest of hundreds of leaders and activists, including BNP’s important leaders Ilias Ali and Chowdhury Alam, has now become a usual affair. Under the circumstances, we’re deeply concerned over the incident of Salahuddin Ahmed. The regime can’t avoid its responsibility and their no plea in this regard will be credible and acceptable to any one.”
Earlier on Wednesday night, BNP and Salauddin’s family members said that law enforcers picked him up from a house at Uttara on Tuesday night, an allegation denied by the law enforcers.
Khaleda demanded of the government to immediately ensure the safe return of Salahuddin to his family members.
She also called upon all conscious citizens and all concerned to be vocal against such ‘limitless injustice.’
The BNP chief said the government high-ups were angry with Salahuddin as he was issuing statements and making announcements of programmes on behalf of BNP and its alliance avoiding arrest.
She said the government’s anger got exposed with the picking up of the BNP leader blindfolded at the dead of night on Tuesday.
Khaleda also condemned the law enforcers’ refusal of accepting a complaint of Salahuddin family over the incident. “It’s a burring example that the law can’t take its own course. It’s no longer necessary to say that how much the common citizens are insecure when such a measure was taken against a national level leader.” – UNB
