Govt inviting another 1/11-like episode, says BNP

BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah on Sunday warned that the ruling party men will have to pay a heavy price if another 1/11-like episode takes place in the country due to the government’s stubbornness.“The country is passing through a critical time. We don’t want the repeat of 1/11-like situation. It’s the present government, not the Zia family, that will have to pay heavily if another 1/11 takes place,” he told a discussion.
Tarique Rahman Mukti Parishad arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club demanding withdrawal of all the cases filed against the BNP senior vice chairman.
Rafiq alleged that the government is conspiring and carrying out propaganda against BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman being disappointed and panicked by his tremendous popularity among people.
Slamming the government minister’s for their unguarded remarks about Tarique, the BNP leader said Tarique will return home in due time, and will do politics for the country and its people.
He said there is no rule of law in the country as it has been run by the ‘rules made by Prime minister Sheikh Hasina’.  “The Judiciary is not independent. The court and the Anti Corruption Commission speak in the same language the way state minister for law Quamrul Islam speaks about bringing back Tarique.”
Rafiq said the government is maneuvering to cling to power through holding a lopsided election as it knows it will have to face trial for their misdeeds and corruption if BNP comes to power through a free and fair election under a non-party caretaker government. “But people will surely bring them to justice for their corruption one day.”
He said the government has pushed the country into a deep crisis by snatching all people’s democratic and voting rights.
BNP vice chairman Syed Moazzem Hossain, Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and BNP chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, among others, addressed the programme. (Source: UNB)
